Expository Paragraph (8th Meeting)

Expository Paragraph
In an expository paragraph, you give information. You explain a subject, give directions, or show how something happens. In expository writing, linking words like first, second, then, and finally are usually used to help readers follow the ideas.
This paragraph, like any other, organizes itself around three parts. A topic sentence allows the reader to understand what you are writing about. The middle part of the paragraph contains supporting sentences that follow one another in a logical sequence of steps. The concluding sentence closes your subject with an emphasis on the final product or process desired by the topic.
An example of  Expository paragraph
Topic : Explain why students do copy paste
Title
The Reason Why Students Do Copy Paste
Introductory Paragraph
Hearing the word copy paste, all of people have known what the meaning is. Yes, the meaning is that some work that have been done by someone has been duplicated by the others, and there is no differences between the content of the work or we can call it that the work is perfectly same/similar.
Many student, often do the copy paste because of some reasons. They do the copy paste just because it was the easiest way of doing something, they do not need to think hard or waste the energy they had to think of the ideas. They just need to do the copy paste and it will be more practical and do not waste a lot of time, so they will have a lot of free time that they can use to do the other things.
Body Paragraph
Phenomenon of copy paste is not very strange in Indonesia and the dominant who does the copy paste is students. Is it a junior high school student, senior high school student or even the college student, they do the copy paste.
There are some reasons why students do copy paste. First, lazy attitude/laziness. The student always think that doing something that waste a lot energy and time to do is very tiring. They do not want to waste the time that they. So they just do the copy paste to keep the time and the energy that they have. And they do not need to think about the answer and they always think that copy paste is the easiest way of doing their assignment. So, because of that laziness the student always do the copy paste and never try to think about the assignment or work that have been given to them by the teacher or lecturer.
Second, the reason of student do copy paste is because they do not understand about the assignment. Not all of student could understand about the assignment that have been given to them. The difficulties of the assignment make the student do copy paste to answer the assignment. Not all of the student brave to ask their friends about the assignment, so they just choose the easiest way to do the assignment or to answer it. Even they ever try to answer it by themselves, but some of them still could not understand about the assignment. As a result, they just do copy paste to answer the assignment as they habit.
The last is because copy paste is the easiest way to complete the task or assignment. The student do the copy paste is because they think that copy paste is the easiest way than they think by themselves. If they do the copy paste, they do not have to waste a lot of time and energy. So they will have much free time for the other activities. The student will be able to complete their task just by several minutes and do not have to think by themselves. Therefore, the students think that copy paste is an easiest way to finish or complete their task/assignment.
Concluding Paragraph
In conclusion, copy paste is a culture for the junior high school student, senior high school student, or even the college student. There are some reasons why students do copy paste, such as because of their laziness, could not understand the task or the assignment, and as an easiest way to complete their task. It is clear that copy paste can become a bad habit, so it will be better to try to avoid it.

Narrative Paragraph (6th Meeting)

Topic : If I Could Go Back in Time

Title
Things That I Wanted To Do In The Past
Introductory paragraph
Each person must have a past. Sometimes, some people always think to be able to repeat the past. They always want to go back to the past, not for anything else, but to fix what they were accustomed in the past.
Body Paragraph
(orientation)
Same as those who want to turn back the time that has passed, I'm also intending to do so. If I could turn back the time, there are a lot of things that I want to do. In the past I have done a lot of mistakes to my friends, and of course my parents. Everyday, every time, I wished that I could turn back the time and I want to fix all of the mistakes that I have done in the past.
Body Paragraph
(complication)
If I could do that, I want to fix the mistakes that I have done to my parents. I wanted to say sorry to them, told them that I will do anything they ask to me, especially for my father. I wished that I could turn back the time, so I could do all of the things that he had said to me. “I love you, Daddy. I love you”, everyday I have always wanted to say that to him and I want to see his smiling face again. Because, the last time I saw him, I could not say that I love him so much, I cannot see his smiling face and that time I am not by his side. And of course I love my mother too. I love my mother more than anyone. I wanted to be more useful for her, and helped her everyday. I always made her cry in the past, so that if I could turn back the time, I will wiped that tears and told her that I will do anything for her. I wanted to see my mother be happy. And I wanted to stay by my father’s side a little longer than before and I want to slept on his lap like when I was kid.

If I could turn back the time, I wanted to fix the problem between me and my friends, and I wanted to say sorry to them. I wanted our relationship go back to normal again, like before we fought with each other. I wanted to play together, laughing together, joking together with them. I wanted to tell them that I love them, I wanted to be together with them again, I will do anything to kept them by my self.
Body Paragraph
(resolution)
If I could turn back the time, all of the things that I have not done it in the past, I want to have it done. So that I will not regret it right now.
Concluding Paragraph
Well, that is what I wished for, but it was impossible to turn back the time. And now, the only thing that I have to do is not to repeated the same mistake like in the past. I just need to do the best that I will not regretted in the future.

Narrative Writing – Task 5

Description of Narrative Writing
Narrative writing tells about story that happen in the past. Narrative Writing relates a clear sequence of events that occurs over time. Both what happens and the order in which the events occur are communicated to the reader. Effective narration requires a writer to give a clear sequence of events (fictional or non-fictional) and to provide elaboration.

How is Narrative Different from Other Writing Genres ?
In this part I would like to try to explain the differences between narrative and expository. Narrative writing, put simply, is telling a story. The narrative tells about an event or events, the people who participated in them, and how each person was affected by them. Expository writing, it's purpose is - hopefully - to inform, instruct, and explain a process. It's the writing style to use in articles, and in letters, reports and academic papers. Expository writing should be clear and succinct, with a logical word progression, so there's no place here for flowery language.

How to Make a Narrative Writing
1.  Structure your introduction so that it grabs the reader's attention. It should also make a point. The introductory phrase should be short and interesting, state a thesis and tell why the story is significant.

Example :
Long time ago a remote village, in central China was inhabited mainly with farmers and hunters. One day, a poor farmer lost his entire livestock to flood. He prayed hard to God for help or his family would die of starvation.

2.  Write the main body. The main body can have as many paragraphs as you want, but it should have at least three. Each paragraph should cover one idea and follow a logical pattern. The easiest way to do this is to put the events in chronological order.

Example :
Few days later, an old man with long grey beard, passed by his house took pity on him. He gave him a goose and said “ I don’t have any expensive thing to give you and hope this goose will help you to ease your hardship.” A week later to almost surprise the farmer found and egg in his yard. This was no ordinary egg. It was a golden egg. He was suddenly overcome with joy.

3.  Sum up your narrative with a conclusion which is just as important to your story as the introduction. If you don't feel comfortable summarizing the idea of your story, you can end with plans for the future or a rhetorical question.

Example :
Thereafter, his livelihood had rapidly improved but the farmer had forgotten his earlier hardship. He became lazy, arrogant and spendthrift.

Showing The Topic Sentence in Our Narrative Writing

“ Loss of Concentration”
Loss of concentration in a volleyball game while still in elementary school is one of the biggest failures I have ever experienced. Eight years ago when I was in grade 5, after the end of semester exams are always held inter- school sporting events. The first day of the match, the volleyball team of my school match with elementary school’s volleyball team from another village, at that time it all goes well without any errors during the match.
The next day is the same, me and my friends are trying to show a good game. Thanks to the efforts of other friends that I could play well in the next game as well. As a captain, I should have tried to be better than the others, because there are all the responsibility of the captain. Strive to continue to without complaining it should be done in order to play better in every game. While in the last game, me and my friends trying to play quietly and trying to give a good game so we can win against a volleyball team from elementary school that has always been our rivals in every volleyball match. Before the game I was trying to calm down in order not to panic and nervous against them. To be honest, they are not an easy opponent for me and my friends. We have the considerable differences, both in ability and height. Despite that, we always managed to get a good result against them, even though we have not won against them once, but can hold them with a balanced outcome is always the best effort we gave and did.
But at that time, we lost. And that we can defeat was purely a mistake that I did when the game in the second half. The previous value can be balanced, but the time of entry into the middle of the second half, I did a very fatal mistake, which resulted in a defeat for my school for the first time. Although there is no one who scold or blame me, but still, my school team lost in the final match due to an error that I did. I should be able to concentrate under any circumstances, but I just lost concentration at crucial moments.
Because of that mistake, my school lost the game, as a captain I should have been responsible for it. Since then, I resigned from the team, and no longer participate in the game. Lose concentration during a match is very disappointing, both for myself or for the others. No matter how the game is being undertaken, should not lose concentration. That's the thing that I regretted till this day.
